I was born and raised in Baytown, Texas. When I graduated from high school in 2002, I attended the Untied States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York until 2006. After graduating with a degree in marine engineering, I did a short-term mission trip with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship at Gu Yuan Teachers College in Ning Xia Provance in China for the summer before joining Mercy Ships next door and attending CCF in September of 2006. I met my wife, Lorah, in South Shields, England during the final year of the conversion of the Africa Mercy. We were married in Pennsylvania in 2008 and have two daughters, Lily and Evelyn. While with Mercy Ships, we served at the office in Texas, on ships in Africa, and at various offices and shipyards working to maintain and grow Mercy Ships fleet.
I grew up in the church, mostly in non-denominational churches like CCF, and have had a personal relationship with Jesus for as long as I can remember. During college, I encountered God in a deep and personal way and began developing a close walk with him through prayer, worship, and reading His Word. I love spending time in contemplative prayer and listening for God’s voice in nature and talking to Him about what he is teaching me through the small and great things of day-to-day life.
I love coffee, reading, music, and being outdoors; especially running or cycling. I also enjoy riding motorcycles and just about any other kind of adventure that I find. I’ve traveled a good deal and enjoy visiting foreign places and cultures, but my heart is home in East Texas. My favorite book of the Bible is the Gospel of John, particularly chapter 15.
