Roy Devisscher Updates
8/23, Update from Sandy
Roy & Sandy Devisscher are on their way home today! Praise the Lord! Roy will be doing out-patient rehab, which is another miracle. They will let us know when they can accept visitors.
8/16, Update from Pastor David
Roy texted Pastor David today that the docs diagnosed a.fib on him saying it could have caused the stroke. So they’ll have to fix that before he is discharged. No way to know how long this will take.
8/15, Update from Lee Shastid
I visited Roy [Devisscher] in Omaha this past week and I am very happy to report “Roy is still Roy”! He is fighting a battle to regain some motor function to restore his independence and [to do the] car trip home next Thursday, 8/21. He is winning the battle with the steadfast help and encouragement of Sandy and the staff at Madonna Rehab Omaha. He is actually doing what he is told and following directions and training. I believe he will be released 8/21 as planned. Let us thank God for his design, plan, and purpose in restoring our good friend.
7/30, 7:30 PM Update from Sandy
Big change of plans: Roy is doing rehab here in Omaha to make the most of these prime post-stroke days, rather than working with in-hospital PTs only 25 minutes per day in the simple hope he’d become able to transfer from wheel chair to car at most. This is a renowned stroke rehab hospital, and they’ll get him much further down the road to restoration and home!
Thanks for your prayers! We love and miss you and hope to see you in a couple weeks!
7/23, 6PM Update from Sandy
We need to stay longer for Roy’s brain to connect more fully with his legs in order to handle the 12-hour road trip home. Doctors and we know it will happen soon, but just not today. THANKS for all the prayers!! We love you!!
7/22, 7 PM Update from Sandy
Roy’s done well today, and he may get out in 2 days to go into a rehab hospital in Tyler! We re just waiting for final confirmation from that facility, then our son will come up tomorrow, and we’ll transport Roy the 12-13 hours back on Thursday. Pray that the enemy does not set him back before, during, or after all this, please! We’re pretty worn out, but happy about this looking good!! Thanks for prayer and your love! Blessings!!
7/20, 8:30 PM Update from Sandy
Hi! Here’s the lonnng version from today:
We’ve had a better day because the Lord provided ability to have no more episodes happen and several lessened symptoms. He can even talk a bit more clearly!! Bless JESUS!!!!
We did visit with the doctors, but it’s pretty sketchy still b/c they aren’t sure if he’s done stroking or not. They told us he is having a stuttering stroke, identifiable by the on again and off again nature of the episodes from Wednesday-yesterday.
Currently, they’re pumping him with anti-cholesterol and blood thinning drugs in addition to the new anti-seizure med he’s already on (but probably doesn’t need now.)
They’ll do an echo of his heart and ultrasounds tomorrow. PT, OT, and speech therapists are working with him now, and all med personnel are saying he will need to go from here to rehab hospital—possibly for quite a lengthy stay.
We are praying (and letting them know we prefer) that he will be able to transfer on his own leg(s) enough to move from chair to car, toilet, bed, etc., to make the trip by car with Daniel and me back to rehab hospital in TX. We need to be there if at all possible for many reasons, as far as we can see, but God may not have the same idea. We’ll see.
I am FILLED UP with confidence in the Lord!! He has been guiding and providing all the different things we’ve needed at every turn in ways that let us know HE has chosen this place for this time for us. We’re still not sure exactly why, but we are at rest in His care!
THANKS for all your prayers!! We love and miss you!!!
7/19 at 8:30 PM, Update from Sandy: After this afternoon s MRI, they re saying brainstem stroke with some irreparable damage, but not sure how much.
But our GOOD GOD is able!!!
We see stroke neurologists tomorrow for a plan, anti-stroke preventative meds and therapy begin, then a stay in a rehab hospital.
Prayers:
1)enough improvement in these next few days for him to be able to walk with a walker so we can get him to Tyler for the rehab hospital
2) for him to TRUST JESUS for healing and determination to do the work of rehab
3)for the Resurrection and the Life to resurrect those parts into which the enemy has brought death.
4) for me to be patient to & kind with a broken man
5) And for sure anything the Holy Spirit leads you to pray
Thank you! Love you!
7/18, Noon, Update from Sandy:
We re headed to Omaha. Roy had another seizure this morning with additional problems, so he needs upgraded testing and care. The Lord sent me double encouragement about this move through the nurse and CNA who He placed us with today!
