Elementary Children’s Pastor –
One of the more intriguing facts about my ancestry is that I’m directly descended from the Pilgrims (on both my parents’ side) who came to America on the Mayflower. I’m truly thankful for their legacy of trusting God. I grew up in an amazing family of 7 near Philadelphia, PA. In college, I majored in elementary education & afterwards taught 2nd grade in Saratoga Springs, NY. During my first year as a public school teacher, I received a clear call to missions. In the summer of 1974, I joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) on an East Coast evangelism team. I continued in NJ for 2 years while leading short-term outreaches in the US and abroad, as well as overseeing a one-room schoolhouse for the staff & Discipleship Training School (DTS) students. In 1976 we moved to CA, first Sunland and then Solvang for the next 3 years.
My precious husband Herb and I got married in 1978, and God blessed us with our first son in 1980, shortly after YWAM moved to Tyler, Texas. In 1981, I was one of the CCF Sunday School teachers while the church met at the Twin Oaks gym, before officially incorporating in 1984. Our next two sons were born in 1986 and 1987. We were delighted with our daughter’s birth in 1991, after our family’s 6-month stay with YWAM in Jamaica.
Today our oldest son Stephen and his wife enjoy their work in Austin, Texas. David is active with his job in Washington, DC, and Daniel is a naval pilot, serving in Japan. Michelle teaches autistic children in Austin. Their college experiences are testimonies of God’s great faithfulness to provide where He guides. Although from a human vantage point this seems impossible, the Lord opened some unusual doors for our children such as an internship at the White House during the Bush administration, 4 years working with the Congress in DC, and alma maters, via scholarships to the US Naval Academy, Texas A&M, Baylor, UT Austin and Southern Methodist University (SMU).
During my years in YWAM, I’ve ministered in orphanages, helped lead King’s Kids teams, taught English as a second language (ESL), which is now called Communication and Culture Course (CCC), and coordinated children’s ministry.
As volunteer missionaries, our travels have included Peru, Russia, China, Korea, Argentina, Mexico, Haiti, Bahamas, & Jamaica. From 1997, until now, I’ve had the joy of serving as the CCF Children’s Pastor. My life goal could be summed up in a single quotation by C.T. Studd: “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.”
