I am a first generation Dutchman born in Canada in 1954. My parents migrated to central Canada in 1952 and I was born 2 years later. I have two older sisters, both whom were born in Holland, the oldest still lives in Canada and my next oldest sister lives in Washington state.
In my early years I joined the Boy Scouts of America. This great organization was instrumental in shaping values in my life and a passion for camping, hiking and climbing. In spring of 1970 I was awarded the Eagle Scout award and worked as a young leader in the Boy Scouts. I served in various community efforts that included being a part of a volunteer Mountain Search and Rescue unit that was associated with the Yakima County Sheriffs Depart.
I came to know the Lord in the early fall of 1976 in Bozeman Montana. At the time I was working as a milkman and was also in partnership with my father in a landscaping business. Soon after becoming a Christian, I sensed a “desire / call” into the ministry. Initially I was thinking I would join a monastery in Northern New Mexico and become Benedictine Monk but through conversations and the leading of the Lord I joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM), in the Spring of 1977.
I was deeply influenced in my call by men such as Loren Cunningham, founder of YWAM, Dean Sherman the first leader in YWAM, and upon reflection a great number of individuals from around the world impacted my life and call.
I am married to Julie whom I met while on the outreach phase of my Discipleship Training School in Central Mexico. Julie was born and raised in northern California and has been the single greatest blessing the Lord has given me in all of years of following Jesus. Their friendship over several years would eventually lead to a marriage that has been blessed with three children, Joshua, Aaron and Emily Grace…all whom serve the Lord and have a passion to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I have been a teacher in the schools of Youth With A Mission over the years, in particular within the region of the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico. My travels have taken me on teaching and evangelism journeys to 25 different nations around the world.
In 2010, Julie and I moved to the Lindale area to work with YWAM Tyler from El Paso, Texas where we had lived for 12 years. In those 12 years we served with Youth With A Mission, the 20-20 Leadership Foundation and pioneered a church. Julie is a legal secretary by education and an anointed mom and partner in life with me.
After getting settled in and resting from involvement in the church as a whole the Lord led Ed and Julie to join CCF. The simple atmosphere, wonderful worship and insightful teaching of Pastor Dave influenced us to join and get engaged again in this church body.
