Awana Commander –
Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, is where I got my start for 24 years. I was raised with two brothers and two sisters. I was the middle child with a happy-go-lucky, care-free, adventurous soul, always looking for the next challenge.
I met God personally through a jeep accident. My faith grew deeper through the trials of getting into the Navy and becoming a Navy SEAL.
After the military, I eventually settled in Virginia Beach as a professional firefighter and started a high rise window cleaning company. During that 20 years time, I served in the local church, primarily with the AWANA program. Then we moved to Hope Haven Children’s home where our family lived with 7 foster kids and started AWANA at the Children’s home for the children in all the homes.
After leaving Hope Haven, we started AWANA at Tabernacle church of Norfolk, Virginia and remained there until moving to Texas and becoming a part of Teen Mania Ministries as Director of Men/Discipline Manager.
I have been married 31 years to my lovely wife Sharon. We have 6 children (Ben, Emily, Deron, Christianna, Alex and Chris) and have 3 grandkids. We have been living in Texas for the last 3 ½ years with 2 kids still at home, a dog and 2 cats.. Blessings to all in Jesus.
